The Governor is the chief executive of the state whose function is to administer the laws of the state. This series consists of the appointments to office and applications made to the Governor for appointment. These appointments and applications cover both state and local offices, as well as judges. There are several folders of applications regarding positions in the Convict Dept., the Highway Commission, and for other positions.

William W. (Woodward) Brandon, governor of Alabama from 1923 to 1927, was born on 1868 June 5 in Talladega, Ala. to Rev. Frank T.J. (1832-1909) and Carrie (Woodward) Brandon. In 1891 he studied law at the University of Alabama and in 1892 he established his law practice in Tuscaloosa and he was elected city clerk and appointed Justice of the Peace.
